CLINTON, S.C. — Sloane Spessard, a junior on the Presbyterian College women’s golf team in Clinton, picked up the Big South Conference’s top weekly award for women’s golf Thursday after the best tournament of her college career.
The league named Spessard, who is from Raleigh, North Carolina, its Women’s Golfer of the Week for play from Oct. 22 through Oct. 28. She tied for second place at the Fripp Island Intercollegiate, posting rounds of 73, 75 and 75 for a 7-over-par 223 on the par-72 layout.
Her final round featured an eagle on the par-4 fourth hole, which helped her play the front nine at even par. Only one other golfer in the field made an eagle during the event, and Spessard was the only player to do it on a par 4. She also tied for the field’s best par-3 scoring average and finished the week with six birdies, the most on her team, as the Blue Hose tied for third in the team standings.
It was the third top-10 finish of Spessard’s career, topping her previous best, a tie for eighth in 2025 at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational. She had also played well at Fripp Island a year ago, tying for ninth there last November. According to PC, her runner-up showing is the program’s best individual result since Sarah Boteler placed second at the Bright’s Creek Intercollegiate in 2023.
No Blue Hose golfer had won the weekly honor since Maiken Bing Paulsen on April 5, 2018, and Spessard is only the sixth in PC’s Division I history to earn it. It is the team’s second weekly league award this fall; Chloe Scofield took the freshman version on Sept. 17.
