CLINTON, S.C. — Big South coaches expect Presbyterian College’s men’s basketball team to be one of the league’s best this winter, voting the Blue Hose in Clinton second in the conference’s 2026-27 preseason poll released Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Presbyterian collected 69 points and two first-place votes. No Blue Hose team has been projected higher since the school entered the Big South in 2008-09, and the old mark was a fourth-place pick before the 2010-11 season. High Point, the two-time defending champion, is the favorite again with 79 of a possible 81 points and the other seven first-place votes.
Three Presbyterian players made the preseason all-conference teams, a first for the school. Jaylen Peterson, a fifth-year forward, and Carl Parrish, a senior guard, landed on the first team, and junior guard Triston Wilson was placed on the second team.
Peterson was the league’s Defensive Player of the Year last season, when he averaged 10.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks a game. Parrish put up 14.4 points per game and made 76 three-pointers. Wilson handed out 127 assists, second-most in the Big South.
The Blue Hose bring back 11 letterwinners from a team that made the program’s first trip to the Big South tournament semifinals.
Winthrop was picked third and Longwood fourth. The season opens Monday, Nov. 2, league play starts Jan. 1, 2027, and the conference tournament is scheduled for March 3-7 in Johnson City, Tennessee.
