LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. — Staff at the Laurens County Sheriff’s Animal Shelter want help from residents to figure out who let a young dog suffer with a puppy collar that had grown into her neck.
Shelter staff trapped the 8-month-old female on Friday, Oct. 23, after she had been spotted roaming for some time in Joanna, near Taylor and Calhoun streets, according to the shelter.
When they caught her, the dog was infested with fleas and had lost a large amount of hair. Staff also found the small collar buried deep in her neck. Shelter officials said she will need several surgeries to recover from the injury.
The shelter has called the case one of neglect and is urging anyone who recognizes the dog or knows where she came from to come forward.
Callers may stay anonymous. The shelter’s number is 864-682-4935, and the county’s dispatch line, 864-984-2523, will also take information.
Clinton Animal Hospital is collecting money for her treatment at its office or by phone at 864-833-2487.
