The Laurens County Republican Party is preparing to host its Summer BBQ and stump meeting, titled Stumping for Victory: Road to November, on Thursday, September 10, at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the American Legion Post 25 facility, located at 19 Choctaw Street in Laurens, offering Clinton residents an opportunity to engage with local and state Republican nominees ahead of the November general election.
This gathering is designed as a traditional stump meeting, providing a platform for candidates to address the community directly. Attendees can expect dinner, music, various speakers, and raffles with prizes. Laurens County Republican Party Chair Valerie Jones emphasized the Southern tradition of stump meetings, highlighting the importance of hearing candidates present their cases face-to-face with the electorate. Jones encouraged families to attend, come hungry, and leave with a clear understanding of who will be on the ballot in November.
Confirmed speakers for the evening include Senator Danny Verdin, Rick Shealy, the Republican nominee for South Carolina House District 14, Laurens County Councilmen Justin Lane and Matthew Brownlee, Councilwoman-elect Nancy Garrison, and school board candidate Nick Babb. While Attorney General Alan Wilson, the Republican nominee for governor, and Solicitor David Stumbo, the Republican nominee for attorney general, have prior campaign commitments preventing their in-person attendance, organizers hope they will address the group via video.
Tickets for the event are priced at $18 per plate for adults and $12 for children aged 10 and younger. Organizers aim for a family-friendly atmosphere, encouraging parents to bring their children. Lee Brothers will cater the event, offering a menu that includes barbecue pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, green beans, pickles, coleslaw, rolls, tea, banana pudding, and cookies.
Members of the Laurens County Republican Party who purchased a $20 membership card at the last convention will receive one free raffle ticket with their dinner plate purchase. Additional tickets for the party’s Red Hot Republican Raffle will be sold during the evening, with the drawing taking place at the event. Tickets can be purchased online through Eventbrite or at the door.
