CLINTON, S.C. — Clinton High School junior Graydon Watkins has been named the Laurens County Touchdown Club Player of the Week for his performance in the Oct. 9 games.
Watkins, who plays receiver and defensive back for the Red Devils, caught five passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-20 road loss to Chesnee. Both scores came in the first half on throws from quarterback Owen Glenn, covering 78 and 29 yards. Glenn finished 9 of 13 passing for 148 yards.
Watkins also contributed on the other side of the ball with 3.5 tackles, and he opened the second half by recovering a fumble.
The club will recognize Watkins on Oct. 15 at its fifth meeting of the season, set for noon at The Ridge, 301 Exchange Road in Laurens. The food line opens at 11:45 a.m., and tickets are $15 at the door. Former Wofford College head coach Mike Ayers, who led that program for 30 years and entered the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame in 2022, is the featured speaker.
Clinton sits at 3-4 overall and 0-2 in region play. The Red Devils come back to Wilder Stadium on Friday, Oct. 16, to host Mountain View Prep.
