Furman Innovation Lab Combines Educational Resources
Furman University has introduced the Furman Innovation Lab (iLab), a new initiative that integrates the Center for Innovative Leadership (CIL), graduate studies, and various Furman institutes into a single hub. The iLab aims to equip both organizations and individuals to navigate the complexities of a changing global economy.
The iLab offers leadership development, innovation facilitation, and executive experiences for employers. For individuals, it provides a flexible learning ecosystem designed for continuous career education. Professional certificates are a new offering, enabling individuals to pursue graduate-level education without interrupting their careers and to progress towards a graduate certificate or master’s degree.
Garrett Stern, executive director of the CIL and co-founder of the iLab, noted that companies in South Carolina require leaders capable of building teams, fostering innovation, and managing uncertainty. Beth Pontari, vice president for academic affairs and provost, stated that the iLab focuses on developing adaptable thinkers who can communicate effectively, build teams, and handle change.
The iLab maintains a physical presence within Flywheel Coworking, complementing its digital platform at innovationlab.furman.edu. Through partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations, Furman University supports South Carolina by developing talent, driving innovation, and building future-ready skills within the workforce.
