Driver Dies in Fiery Crash along I-26 in Laurens Co.
Laurens County, S.C. – Tragedy struck Interstate 26 on Wednesday afternoon when a driver lost their life in a horrific crash. The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. near mile marker 55 on the westbound lane of the highway.
The Incident
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident unfolded as a **tractor trailer** hit a **disabled pickup truck**. The pickup truck was parked in the emergency lane, with the driver working on changing a tire. The impact from the tractor trailer not only struck the pickup but also hit the driver attending to the tire.
The Aftermath
The force of the collision sent the tractor trailer veering into a guardrail before it ultimately plunged down a ravine and burst into flames. This fiery end resulted in the death of the truck’s driver, identified by the **Laurens County Coroner’s Office** as 64-year-old **Mark Anthony Bigby** of Anderson.
Other Involved Parties
The driver who was in the process of changing the tire sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, a passenger who was in the pickup truck at the time remained uninjured.
