LAURENS, S.C. — Voters in part of Laurens County School District 55 will go back to the polls Nov. 17 to decide who fills Seat 6 on the district Board of Trustees, after neither Nick Babb nor Lee McDaniel won a majority in the Nov. 3 general election.
Babb finished first with 694 votes, or 49.96%, in the county results. McDaniel had 673 votes, or 48.45%, and 22 write-in votes accounted for the rest of the 1,389 ballots cast in the contest.
Lynne West, who leads the county Board of Registration and Elections as executive director, said a school board candidate needs more than half of all votes cast to win, which sends the race to a runoff. The count included provisional ballots.
The runoff covers seven precincts, listed here alphabetically: Barksdale Narnie, Gray Court, Laurens Five, Laurens Four, Maddens, Owings and Trinity Ridge. Voters registered in those precincts can use their regular polling places, which will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 17.
Early voting will be available Nov. 12 and Nov. 13, with hours from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Voters Registration Office in Laurens, located at 105 Bolt Dr., Suite B.
Whoever wins will succeed Peggy Nance, who is leaving the board.
