CHAPIN, S.C. — Chapin-area voters helped fill two Lexington County seats on the Lexington-Richland School District Five board, with Kim Gilbert and Jennifer G. Rice leading unofficial returns from the Nov. 3 election.
Gilbert finished with 9,846 votes, or about 32.36 percent, and Rice followed with 9,573 votes (31.46 percent) in the four-candidate Lexington County field for District Five.
Karena Phelps tallied 7,240 votes (23.79 percent) and Blake Justice received 3,611 votes (11.87 percent). Write-ins made up a small share of the ballots counted.
District Five oversees schools that serve Chapin and neighboring Lexington and Richland communities. The two Lexington County seats were the only District Five races on the local ballot.
Totals remain unofficial until county canvassing and state certification are finished, and the new trustees will join the board after that process wraps up.
