CLINTON, S.C. — Drivers heading east on Interstate 26 through Laurens County near Clinton should expect periodic lane closures through the end of the year while the South Carolina Department of Transportation resurfaces the road.
SCDOT began the work on Monday, Oct. 5. One lane will be closed periodically between mile markers 43 and 60 until Thursday, Dec. 31, weather permitting.
The closures are needed to resurface that section of the interstate. Drivers are asked to slow down and pay attention when traveling near the work zone.
The stretch runs past the I-26 and Highway 72 interchange, the main retail hub for Clinton with a Walmart Supercenter and national restaurants. Newer neighborhoods such as Hampton Woods, off Highland Station Drive in northeast Clinton, count on quick I-26/I-385 interchange access for daily commutes.
