ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Presbyterian College women’s soccer team travels to Rock Hill on Wednesday night to face Winthrop, with both Big South teams still looking for their first conference win of the season.
First touch at Eagle Field is set for 6 p.m., and the match will stream on ESPN+. Presbyterian enters at 3-7-1 overall and 0-4 in league play, while Winthrop is 3-9-1 and 0-4. Only four matches remain in the Blue Hose season, and the top six teams in the Big South standings at the end of the month advance to the postseason.
Winthrop leads the all-time series 12-4-3 in what will be the 20th meeting between the programs. The last two matchups ended in 2-2 draws, including last year’s game in Clinton. Presbyterian won 1-0 the last time the teams met in Rock Hill, in 2023.
The Blue Hose are coming off a 2-0 loss to Charleston Southern in a match that was moved up 18 hours because of weather concerns, after a 4-2 win over South Carolina State at Martin Stadium. Sophomore Maddie Smith has seven goals, third in the Big South and one short of the program Division I record set by Tori Lopez in 2013. Senior defender Lyla Chadd has a 61-match streak of never missing a college game.
Winthrop lost 5-1 to USC Upstate in its most recent match and ranks last in the Big South in scoring with 13 goals in 13 matches. The Eagles were outscored 14-2 over the first half of the league schedule. Freshman goalkeeper Mia Ruffalo has played every minute this season for Winthrop, whose longtime coach Spencer Smith is in his 17th season.
After Wednesday, Winthrop stays home to host Gardner-Webb at 1 p.m. Saturday.
