Greenwood, S.C. — Voters in Greenwood School District 50 will decide this fall whether the district can borrow up to $175 million for new schools and major renovations.
The district Board of Trustees approved a resolution authorizing the bond referendum for the November 3, 2026, ballot. If voters approve, the district could issue up to $175 million in general obligation bonds for facility improvements and capital projects across the district, with no projected tax increase.
The project list includes a new Benjamin E. Mays Elementary and a new combined Lakeview-Pinecrest Elementary School. Rice Elementary and Hodges Elementary School would get significant renovations and additions, and the plan also covers safety, transportation and learning space upgrades district-wide.
District officials say the proposal is meant to address current facility needs and prepare for future enrollment growth. Bond money is dedicated to long-term facility improvements and cannot be used for salaries or daily operating expenses. The district says its financial advisors do not expect the bond to require a tax increase.
The district held the first public information session Monday at 6 p.m. at the Genesis Education Center. A second session is set for Monday, October 26, at the same location and time. Residents can send questions to the district facilities feedback email listed on the district bond page.
