CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College women’s soccer opens its final home weekend in Clinton on Saturday, Oct. 17, with a 1 p.m. match against Longwood at Martin Stadium. The game streams on ESPN+.
Time is short for the Blue Hose. They are 3-8-1 overall and still looking for their first Big South point at 0-5, with three regular-season matches left and a push to climb into the league’s top six before the conference tournament.
Longwood comes in 6-7-2 and 3-3 in league play. Radford beat the Lancers 2-0 at the Longwood Athletics Complex on Wednesday, and Longwood took all nine of its shots after halftime. Before that, they had strung together three straight shutouts and outscored Winthrop, Charleston Southern and UNC Asheville by a combined 7-0. Freshman goalkeeper Brynn Clagett leads Big South keepers with a 0.80 goals-against average.
Presbyterian is coming off a 4-0 loss at Winthrop. Sophomore Maddie Smith remains the bright spot with seven goals, third most in the conference and one short of the program’s Division I single-season record set by Tori Lopez in 2013. Senior defender Lyla Chadd has played in 62 consecutive matches.
Longwood owns the all-time series 9-3-6 and has not lost to the Blue Hose in seven meetings. Presbyterian’s last win in the series was a 2-1 overtime decision in Clinton on Sept. 21, 2019.
