Spartanburg, S.C. — A passenger injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 221 near the Interstate 26 interchange in Spartanburg County has died, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said the crash happened around 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5. A Ford Explorer traveling south on U.S. 221 was turning left onto Interstate 26 when a northbound Chevrolet Cobalt struck the Explorer on the right side.
The Explorer driver and passenger were taken to a hospital by EMS. The Cobalt driver, the only occupant of that vehicle, was also taken to a hospital. The passenger in the Explorer died Saturday from the injuries.
The Spartanburg County Coroner Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate. Officials have not announced charges in connection with the collision.
U.S. 221 feeds traffic into the I-26 interchange in the county. The Highway Patrol investigation remained open as of the weekend death announcement.
