Vermont High School Fall Sports Update
This past week marked the start of the 2024 Vermont high school fall sports season, with exciting games unfolding across various sports, including soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running. Teams have been busy competing, and here are some of the highlights and scores from this week’s matches.
Soccer
In a standout performance, the University of Vermont soccer team dominated Harvard with a score of 5-0. Key players included Marcell Papp, who scored 2 goals, along with Maxmilian Kissel and Sydney Wathuta, each scoring as well. This victory extended Vermont’s impressive unbeaten streak to six games and marked the first time the program has recorded back-to-back 5-0 shutouts.
Other notable soccer results included Spaulding earning a narrow 1-0 victory over U-32, thanks to a goal from Eden White. Missisquoi triumphed 2-1 against Harwood, with Surelle Casperson scoring the game winner in overtime after returning from injury.
Field Hockey
In field hockey, Harwood secured a massive 17-1 victory over Lyndon. Players like Steele Nelson and Anthony Caforia played key roles, scoring multiple goals. Fair Haven also displayed dominance with a convincing 7-0 win against Otter Valley.
Volleyball
The volleyball scene also heated up with Champlain Valley claiming victory over Mount Mansfield in straight sets, 3-0. Players such as Rieanna Murray contributed significantly to the win, highlighting the team’s strong start this season.
Cross-Country & Golf
Cross-country running and golf competitions have also begun, with teams preparing for their upcoming meets and tournaments, aiming for success as the season progresses.
