South Carolina: Two Women Charged in Toddler’s Death

Two women have been charged in connection with the tragic death of a two-year-old child due to severe burns in Florence County, South Carolina. Ky’Ledja Janissa Holloway, 20, faces serious accusations of intentionally injuring the child, while Traquianna Holloway-Wilson, 29, has been charged for not seeking medical treatment for the child despite being aware of the injury.

Details of the Incident

The incident took place in early January at a residence on Bair Court in Florence. Reports indicate that Holloway allegedly inflicted second-degree burns on the child’s knees and lower legs by pouring hot liquid over them. At the time of the incident, Holloway was responsible for the child’s care. Following the injury, the child was not provided with medical attention, which ultimately led to the death of the toddler two days later due to complications from an infection related to the burns.

Charges Filed Against the Suspects

In light of the events, Holloway has been formally charged with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child. Meanwhile, Holloway-Wilson faces charges of unlawfully placing a child at risk. Both women have been detained in the Florence County Detention Center, with Holloway held without bond. In contrast, Holloway-Wilson was released after posting bond.

In addition to Holloway and Holloway-Wilson, a third individual, identified as Patricia Stafford, aged 60, was arrested in April and charged with unlawful neglect of a child. Stafford’s involvement appears to stem from her knowledge of the situation, contributing to an environment where the child was not adequately protected.

Ongoing Investigation

The case is currently under the jurisdiction of the 12th Circuit Solicitor’s Office and is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) in collaboration with the Florence Police Department. The investigation aims to uncover more details about the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability for all parties involved.

Background Context

Child safety is a fundamental concern that surrounds the responsibilities of caregivers. This heartbreaking case underscores the potential consequences of neglect and the importance of seeking timely medical intervention for injuries, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children. The charges filed against both women highlight the legal ramifications that can result from severe incidents of abuse and neglect.

The community of Florence County is grappling with this tragic event as they seek understanding and justice for the young life lost. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to provide updates on the legal proceedings and any further developments related to the case.
