Born on January 9, 1949, in Laurens, South Carolina, Stan was the son of William Harold and Betty Dale (Templeton) Power. He grew up in Clinton, South Carolina, where he graduated from Clinton High School in 1967. After one year at Clemson University, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, dedicating three years of his life from 1969 to 1972 to serve his country. Stan completed two tours in Vietnam as a linguist specialist/interpreter, where he participated in over 250 missions. His courage and skill earned him three Air Medals with Oak Leaf Clusters and one Distinguished Flying Cross.
Upon returning from Vietnam, Stan pursued further education by attending night school at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, for three years. He began his professional career as a draftsman at B.F. Shaw in Laurens, SC, eventually working for various firms in North Carolina and South Carolina. Notably, he spent eight years at the Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant in Southport, NC, as the Manager of the Pipe Support Group. Following this, he held several contracting positions before joining Western Environmental Management in Carlsbad, New Mexico, which was later renamed Tessenderlo Kerley Services (TKS). Stan advanced through the ranks to become General Manager and Vice President in 2005, where he continued to work until his retirement in 2021 after nearly 50 years in the workforce.
Stan married Patricia “Amy” (Sirmon) Power on July 23, 1983, in Clinton, SC. The couple moved to Carlsbad, NM, for what was initially meant to be a two-month job in 1990. Throughout his life, Stan had a passion for collecting and restoring cars, and he enjoyed participating in car shows across New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. He was known for his fondness for beach-themed décor and Tommy Bahama items. He was an active member of several local organizations, including the C.A.R.S. Club of Carlsbad, Elks Club B.P.O.E. #1558, the Carlsbad Department of Development, and the First United Methodist Church of Carlsbad.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents but is survived by his wife, Amy, and three sons: Jeremy Power, Jordan Power (wife May Wu), and Corey Power. He also leaves behind a brother, James Timothy “Tim” Power (wife Dianne); a sister, Mary Beth (Power) Shealy (husband Brian); multiple sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews; two aunts; and many cousins.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Carlsbad, NM. A second Memorial Service will follow in Clinton, SC, at a later date.
