Sedro Woolley Claims Dominant Victory in Playoff Prep
On Sunday, November 3, 2024, the Sedro Woolley Cubs took charge in their annual Wesco crossover matchup against the Mountlake Terrace Hawks, delivering a decisive victory with a final score of 40-0. The Cubs, who are the second-place team in the 3A Wesco North, showcased their strength against the second-place team from the 3A Wesco South, securing a solid victory as both teams prepare for the state playoffs next week.
With this win, the Cubs improved their record to 7-2. Next up, they will face Central Valley in the round of 32 in the state playoffs. Meanwhile, Mountlake Terrace ended the game with a record of 6-3 and will head to Eastside Catholic for their playoff game on Friday, November 8, at 7 p.m..
In other high school football action, Edmonds-Woodway triumphed over Marysville Getchell with a score of 35-21. Edmonds-Woodway now holds a record of 3-6, while Marysville Getchell stands at 2-7. In another game, Jackson easily defeated Lynnwood with a staggering score of 71-7. This leaves Lynnwood winless at 0-9 this season.
In the 3A District 1 tournament, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks fell to Monroe in the opening round with a score of 2-1. Ally Villalobos VanSlooten scored the only goal for the Hawks, but it was not enough as they now enter the consolation bracket, needing to win two elimination games to qualify for the state tournament. The first elimination game for the Hawks is against Everett on Tuesday, November 5, at 6 p.m..
In track, the District 1 Championships were held at Lakewood High School, where the top four teams qualified for state. The Shorewood boys dominated with a score of 27, securing their place in the state championships. Competing against them were other teams such as Meadowdale and Shorecrest.
The upcoming State Championship is set for Saturday, November 9, with the girls’ race at 1 p.m. and the boys’ race at 2:30 p.m. at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. Track and field teams are gearing up for this important event as they try to claim their spots in the state spotlight.
