News Summary

Marjorie Corbett Roberts, a beloved resident of Greenwood, passed away peacefully at 92. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, known for her warmth and care. A memorial service will be held to honor her life and contributions to the community. Margie’s legacy lives on through her family and the many lives she touched.

Greenwood, SC – Marjorie Corbett Roberts, a cherished resident of Greenwood, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on May 12, 2025, at Clemson Downs, where she had recently moved to be closer to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayto Roberts, and leaves behind a loving family, including four daughters, multiple grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Margie was born on June 10, 1932, in Mountville, SC, to the late William Henry Corbett and Mary Coates Corbett. She graduated from Mountville High School in 1950 and attended Anderson College for one year before marrying Clayto Roberts on October 20, 1951. The couple settled in Greenwood in 1956 and became active members of the community through their church affiliations with Westminster Presbyterian Church and later Rock Presbyterian Church.

Throughout her marriage, Margie was a devoted caregiver to Clayto, who suffered from dementia for a decade. In 2017, the couple moved to the Presbyterian Home in Clinton, SC, where Clayto passed away shortly after. Margie then transitioned to Clemson Downs earlier this year to remain close to her beloved family during her later years.

She is survived by her four daughters: Debbie Hamlett of Greenwood, Nancy Parvin of Chattanooga, TN, Mary Barron of Clemson, SC, and Lamar Roberts of Roswell, GA. Margie’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, including Katie Barron Hubbard, Ashley Hamlett Jenkins, Meg Barron Denham, Caroline Roberts, and Rebecca Roberts, as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Margie was a loving mother and grandmother, known for her warmth and dedication to her family. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Amy Hamlett and Christopher Lacey, who will be fondly remembered. Margie’s great-grandchildren include Sterling, Henry, and Shelby Jenkins, Charlie, Ellis, and Amelia Hubbard, and Barron and Pryor Jane Denham, who have brought immeasurable joy to her life.

A memorial service to honor Margie’s life is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Rock Presbyterian Church in Greenwood. The service will be officiated by Rev. Chris Leonard, with burial set to take place at Oakbrook Memorial Gardens. The family welcomes friends to gather at the church following the service to celebrate Margie’s life and share memories.

In appreciation for the kindness shown to her throughout her time at the Presbyterian Home and Clemson Downs, the family expresses gratitude to the staff for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to be made to Rock Presbyterian Church or Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina, reflecting Margie’s commitment to her faith and community.

Blyth Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the Roberts family during this difficult time, ensuring that Margie’s memories are honored and celebrated in the coming days. Marjorie Corbett Roberts will be remembered not only for her devotion to her family but also for the love she shared with those around her in Greenwood and beyond.
