Celebrating Black History Month at Presbyterian College

Clinton, SC – February is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to celebrate Black History Month! Presbyterian College is kicking things off with a fantastic lineup of activities and events, all dedicated to honoring the incredible history, culture, and contributions of African Americans. The theme for this year is “African Americans and Labor”, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Let’s Get Started!

The festivities are set to begin on Monday, February 3, with a lively Kick-off Celebration in the Springs Great Room from 3-5 p.m. Get ready for an afternoon filled with music and meaningful fellowship. It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with friends and meet new people while celebrating this significant month!

Dress to Impress

Also on February 3, the Multicultural Student Union is sponsoring a “Dress for Success Day”. Students are encouraged to don their finest professional attire, promoting the idea that looking sharp is a way to respect and honor the importance of labor and contribution in our society. It’s a fun way to show off personal style while participating in a great cause!

A Night at the Movies

Looking for something to do on February 4? Join in for a special Movie Night series featuring the film 6888, starring Kerry Washington. This poignant film showcases the story of the only all-Black, all-female battalion in WWII. Grab your popcorn and head over to Kuhne Auditorium at 7 p.m. to dive into this inspiring story!

Voices of Change

On February 6, join an open discussion titled “Voices of Change” at 7:30 p.m. in Neville 106. Led by a local non-profit arts and education organization, this event promises to spark conversations about important changes within the African American community and beyond. Don’t miss this chance to share your thoughts and insights!

Football and Fellowship

Football fans, mark your calendars for February 9! A Super Bowl Watch Party is slated for 6:15 p.m. at the MSU House. Gather with fellow students to cheer on your favorite team during this fun-filled night. Enjoy snacks, games, and some friendly competition.

Dr. Booker T. Ingram, Jr. Convocation

On February 12, the 2025 Dr. Booker T. Ingram, Jr. Convocation will feature a guest speaker who knows a thing or two about making an impact. Dr. Tonya M. Matthews, CEO of the International African American Museum, will take the stage at 7 p.m. in Edmunds Hall. She’ll share her valuable insights and experiences in social entrepreneurship and institutional equity, inspiring attendees to reflect on their own contributions to society.

Community Spirit

Giving back is important, and on February 13 at 5:30 p.m., a community service project is scheduled in collaboration with PC’s Hispanic Appreciation Organization. Participants will gather in Neville 318 to create gift baskets for residents at Thornwell. It’s a wonderful way to spread joy and connect with the community.

Basketball and Celebrations

Don’t forget to catch the Blue Hose Women’s Basketball game on February 15 at 2 p.m. in the Templeton Center, where recognition and appreciation for Black History Month will be front and center. Rally your friends and cheer on the team while honoring this important month!

80s-90s Party Time

Later that night, get ready for an 80s-90s Party hosted by MSU at the MSU House starting at 11 p.m. Dust off those neon clothes and get ready to have some fun on the dance floor!

A Special Worship Service

On February 17, don’t miss the Campus-Wide Worship Service at 7 p.m. in the Springs Great Room, featuring guest preacher Rev. Gail Henderson-Belsito. This service will be an uplifting way to further honor Black History Month and reflect on its meaning.

Dance and Celebrate

Finally, on February 18, select students will have the opportunity to attend a performance by the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at the Greenville Peace Center. It promises to be a stunning celebration of dance and culture!

Presbyterian College is welcoming students, faculty, and the surrounding community to join in on these vibrant events, all aimed at honoring African American heritage and promoting diversity and inclusion.
