Minneapolis — The high school sports scene was buzzing with excitement this week as several thrilling basketball games took place across the state. In boys’ basketball, Camden narrowly edged out Southwest with a close score of 79-78. South also had a hard-fought battle against North, finishing with a score of 85-84, demonstrating just how competitive this season is.
Meanwhile, in the NORTHWEST SUBURBAN league, Centennial secured a victory against Elk River, winning 53-47. The Metropolitan area had notable matches as well, with Eden Prairie dominating Waconia by a score of 99-72. Other highlights from the Metropolitan area included Lakeville South beating Minneapolis Washburn 70-44 and Prior Lake winning 86-66 against Chanhassen. Osseo also showed strong performance, taking down Irondale 67-49.
On the girls’ side, Mahtomedi made waves with a lopsided win against Simley, finishing 75-30. Centennial continued their strong showing, beating Elk River 72-66. In another fantastic matchup, Benilde-St. Margaret’s emerged victorious against Hill-Murray with a score of 77-66. Meanwhile, North St. Paul showcased a strong defense, limiting Minneapolis Edison to just 15 points in a 49-15 triumph.
Gymnastics also had its share of excitement as Highland Park recorded an impressive 124.0 score against Johnson, with Ellie Pavlis leading in the all-around competition with a score of 33.00.
The hockey scene saw Lakeville North defeat Apple Valley 5-2, while in a close matchup, Roseville/Mahtomedi ended in a tie with White Bear Lake at 1-1 after overtime.
The wrestling teams were not to be left out, with Humboldt taking down Washington 45-29.
