Born on April 16, 1958, in Laurens, Michael was the son of the late Simion Conway and Martha Frances Sims Johnson. He completed his high school education at Laurens District 55 High School in 1976 and pursued further studies at the University of South Carolina, where he earned a degree in Broadcast Engineering in 1979.
Michael was the owner of Communication Unlimited and part owner of WLBG, both of which played significant roles in the communication sector. Within the communication community, he was affectionately known by his Citizens Band (CB) handle “Blue Van.” His expertise and entrepreneurial spirit helped shape the local broadcasting landscape.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Michael was committed to serving his community. He served as a board member for Laurens County Healthcare and the Chamber of Commerce, demonstrating his dedication to improving the lives of his fellow residents. Michael’s leadership and vision contributed to various initiatives aimed at enhancing community well-being and fostering economic growth in Laurens.

A memorial service to celebrate Michael Conway Johnson’s life is scheduled for 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Emil Finley will conduct the service, which will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to reflect on Michael’s life and contributions. Following the service, the family will welcome friends at the mortuary to share memories and condolences.
