Iowa High School Football Season Finale: Week 9 Highlights and Playoff Anticipation

Des Moines – The excitement was palpable on the final night of the Iowa high school football regular season as many teams faced off in crucial matchups. This was Week 9, a night that would decide playoff positions for the upcoming weeks. Several teams played their last games in Classes 5A, 4A, and 3A, while others kicked off their playoff journeys in the lower classes.

The competition was fierce, with numerous teams showcasing their talent. In a thrilling game, Norwalk bested Glenwood, with a close score of 29-26. Meanwhile, Lewis Central displayed dominance with a significant win over Dallas Center-Grimes, ending the game at 49-8. Other notable results included Waukee Northwest defeating Ames 50-6 and Pleasant Valley defeating Linn-Mar 35-21.

As teams prepared for the playoffs, Waterloo West managed a solid victory over Ottumwa with a score of 28-21. In addition, Benton shut out Williamsburg, resulting in a final score of 21-0 and MOC-Floyd Valley took down Sioux City Heelan, winning 49-21.

The playoffs for Classes 5A, 4A, and 3A were particularly exciting, with first-round matchups to be revealed early Saturday morning. The Iowa High School Athletic Association is expected to announce these matchups around 10 a.m. Following the conclusion of high-stakes games, the anticipation of playoff placements loomed large.

Cedar Rapids Prairie fought off a tough challenge from Iowa City West, ultimately securing a 28-21 win. Over in Pleasantville, PCM defeated Des Moines Christian with a final score of 41-19. Carlisle edged out Bondurant-Farrar 21-14.

Among those teams which ended their regular-season journeys, North Polk celebrated after defeating ADM with a final score of 27-14. Also, Emmetsburg achieved an impressive victory, winning 57-7 against Grand View Christian.

As the evening concluded, fans anxiously awaited the round-of-16 playoff pairings, set to shape the upcoming battles in Iowa high school football.
