High School Sports Recap from December 8, 2024
In Western Pennsylvania, the high school basketball scene was lively with today’s matches. The McDowell Tournament saw some interesting outcomes as teams competed fiercely for victory. In the consolation game, Benedictine from Ohio defeated the International Sports Academy from Ohio with a score of 69 to 51. The championship game was just as thrilling, with Knoch edging past McDowell with a final score of 58 to 49, securing their place as the champions of the tournament.
Upcoming Games
Things aren’t slowing down as we move into Monday’s schedule. Many boys’ basketball teams will hit the courts at 7:30 p.m. including Apollo-Ridge at West Shamokin, Beth-Center at Charleroi, and Perry Traditional Academy at Springdale. Other matchups will feature Peters Township visiting Seneca Valley and Steel Valley facing off against Waynesburg Central at 6 p.m.
The girls’ basketball teams are also set to take the floor on Monday. Exciting matchups include Aliquippa at South Side and Baldwin taking on South Park, both starting at 7 p.m. Other games expected to draw interest are Northgate going up against Sewickley Academy at 6:30 p.m. and Fox Chapel facing Hempfield later that evening.
Ice Hockey and Wrestling Schedule
The ice hockey stage will also feature action on Monday night. In Class 3A, Upper St. Clair will challenge North Allegheny at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, teams in Class 2A, like Cathedral Prep and Penn-Trafford, face off at 6:30 p.m. For wrestling fans, there are some nonsection matches lined up, including Brashear dueling Yough at 7 p.m.
