High School Sports Roundup for Oct. 30
In Westminster, the excitement was high as several high school teams took the court and field on Wednesday, October 30, showcasing impressive skills and competitive spirits.
In volleyball, the Century Knights made a strong statement with a decisive victory over Francis Scott Key in the Class 2A regional quarterfinal. The Knights triumphed with scores of 25-10, 25-16, and 25-12. Notable players included Gabby Zajaczkowski, Abhi Yadlapalli, and Hannah Heffernan, each contributing seven kills. Corinne Zepp stood out with an impressive 16 digs and nine aces.
The Carver A&T Wildcats battled hard against Pikesville, winning with a final score of 3-2, after dropping the first set 23-25 and then winning the next three sets at 25-14, 25-16, losing the fourth at 19-25, and finally securing the match with a 15-10 win in the last set.
Over in Annapolis, the host Panthers dominated Suitland in a convincing match, winning 3-0 with scores of 25-3, 25-12, and 25-9. Tessa Cohen and McHale Hughes led the team with strong performances, including 4 aces and 11 assists.
Meanwhile, the Liberty Lions continued their momentum with a solid 3-0 win over Catoctin, showcasing teamwork and skill throughout the match. Jasmine Bada’s performance was particularly noteworthy with 5 kills, 6 digs, and 4 aces.
In another exciting matchup, the Manchester Valley Mavericks claimed victory against Westminster with scores of 25-27, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-11. Emily Troy delivered a standout performance, racking up 23 kills and 13 digs.
The Fallston Cougars snagged a win against North East with a close 3-1 match give them a boost of confidence going forward.
