High School Football Playoff Highlights: Arizona Teams Battle for Semifinal Spots

This past weekend, high school football in Arizona was filled with thrilling playoff action. The Open Division quarterfinals and various class quarterfinals took place on Friday and Saturday, showcasing some intense matchups across the state.

In the Open Division quarterfinals, Hamilton secured a solid victory over Marana with a final score of 31-22. Liberty dominated their game against Higley, winning decisively with a score of 64-26. ALA Queen Creek battled hard and came out on top against Desert Mountain, finishing at 20-14. Basha also had an impressive performance, defeating Horizon 36-14.

The action continued with the 6A quarterfinals, where Brophy took down Perry with a score of 31-13. Mesa Mountain View made headlines by blowing out Salpointe Catholic, finishing with a remarkable 41-10 scoreline. Centennial earned a convincing win against Casteel at 37-14, while Queen Creek edged out Pinnacle in a close contest, finishing 37-28.

In the 5A quarterfinals, ALA Gilbert North crushed Campo Verde 42-7. Cactus came away with a victory over Raymond S. Kellis, ending the game at 21-6. Verrado secured a solid win against Buena with a score of 41-26, and Desert Edge comfortably defeated Tucson 30-14.

The 4A quarterfinals saw Yuma Catholic beat Walden Grove 28-13. Mica Mountain had a strong showing against Thunderbird, finishing the game at 38-14. Snowflake dominated Prescott with a final score of 49-13, and Arizona College Prep completed their game against Arcadia with a score of 35-14.

Looking ahead, the 3A semifinals will take place at Mesa High, featuring Pusch Ridge facing Benjamin Franklin at 6 p.m. and Thatcher going up against ALA West Foothills at 2 p.m.. Meanwhile, the 2A semifinals will be held at Westwood High, with Scottsdale Christian set to compete against San Tan Charter at 6 p.m. and Pima taking on Tonopah Valley at 2 p.m.
