Greenwood Schools Transition to eLearning on January 22

Student learning from home during eLearning days

News Summary

On January 22, 2025, Greenwood schools will switch to eLearning days in response to cold weather forecasts. Local districts including Greenwood School Districts 50, 51, and 52, as well as Palmetto Christian Academy and Piedmont Technical College, have announced virtual learning plans, ensuring students can learn from home while staying safe and warm during the chilly weather. Essential services will remain available for campus residents at Piedmont Technical College and Lander University.

Heads Up, Greenwood! Changes Coming for Schools on January 22

Hey there, Greenwood! It looks like we’re gearing up for a chilly day on January 22, 2025. With the forecast showing a sunny yet brisk high of 33°F and northeast winds blowing gently at 5 to 10 mph, it’s going to be quite nippy out there. The temperatures are expected to dip down to around 17°F, so wrap up warm if you’re heading outdoors!

eLearning Days for Local Schools

In anticipation of the expected inclement weather, several local school districts have decided to implement eLearning days to ensure everyone stays safe and snug at home. Students from the following districts will need to grab their devices and prepare for learning from the comfort of their homes:

  • Greenwood School District 50
  • Greenwood School District 51
  • Greenwood School District 52
  • Abbeville County School District

Additionally, Palmetto Christian Academy of Greenwood will join in on the eLearning fun and will not have in-person classes that day either. So, it sounds like everyone will be sticking to their screens!

What Should Students Expect?

For the eLearning day, students will be utilizing Chromebooks or packets that their teachers have prepared. It’s a great chance for everyone to get their learning in while staying cozy indoors. If students run into any hiccups or have questions, teachers will be all hands on deck for assistance via email during regular school hours.

Piedmont Technical College Goes Virtual

But that’s not all! Over at Piedmont Technical College, they’re also making some changes. Starting from January 21 at 2 p.m., all classes will shift to virtual operations. So, if you were planning to hit the campus, remember to check your online classes instead!

On January 22, Piedmont Technical College will have a delayed opening at 10 a.m. This gives everyone a little extra time to warm up and settle in. Essential services—think residence halls, dining, and safety—will continue running so that students living on campus have all they need, even during the chilly weather.

Lander University Classes on Hold

And let’s not forget about Lander University, who will also take precautions. All classes starting January 21 at 3:30 p.m. will be canceled, and similar to Piedmont, they’ll be back in action at 10 a.m. on January 22. While classes may be paused, students can still count on essential services being available on campus.

Stay Warm and Connected!

So, Greenwood, while the weather may keep us inside, let’s make the most of the eLearning days! Be sure to check with your teachers for any specific assignments or information and don’t forget to bundle up if you’re venturing out. This is a perfect opportunity to stay warm, stay safe, and keep the learning going from home!

Keep an eye on that weather forecast, and let’s make it through the cold spell together, Greenwood!
