Exciting National Signing Day Celebrated in Various Schools
On Wednesday, cities across the area were abuzz with excitement as athletes took a significant step in their sports careers during the first National Signing Day of the 2024-25 school year. While football players will finalize their commitments next month, many other talented athletes signed their National Letters of Intent, marking a proud moment for them and their schools.
In Bethany, one of the standout moments came from Keziah Lofton, a top prospect in the nation. The dynamic left-handed guard signed with the University of Oklahoma (OU) after leading her team to two consecutive Class 4A state titles. Lofton described her decision as a “no-brainer”, revealing her long-time passion for the Sooners. “It feels great. It’s a dream come true,” she said with pride. Lofton averaged 18.8 points per game last season, proving her skills on the court.
Her teammate, Kayten Donley, also sealed her future by committing to Oral Roberts University. Together, they reflected on the journey that took their team to historic victories, with Lofton expressing gratitude for the support from their coaches and teammates.
At Crossings Christian, Cal Furnish made waves by committing to Oral Roberts as well. After a successful summer playing in the Nike EYBL circuit, he received multiple Division I offers. He chose Oral Roberts not just for athletics but also for its strong faith-based values, which resonated with him.
“I want to leave everything I have on the court, no matter what jersey I’m wearing,” said Furnish, who led his team to the state semifinals last season.
Meanwhile, Janiyah Williams, who started receiving big Division-I offers back in eighth grade, officially signed with the University of Oregon. The Edmond Memorial standout expressed relief and excitement as she signed alongside her teammate, Avery Hjelmstad, who committed to Utah. Williams looks forward to a competitive senior year and dreams of playing professionally.
The atmosphere was electric at Choctaw, where a record 19 athletes celebrated their collegiate commitments across various sports. Notably, baseball players Cash Williams and Gaige Albright signed their letters of intent to the University of Tennessee and Oklahoma State, respectively. Both players have made significant strides in their high school careers and are eager to contribute to their college programs.
As the dust settles on this day of commitments, the hope for state championships and future successes is palpable among these promising athletes. National Signing Day not only underscores their achievements but also illustrates the bright frames that lie ahead in their sports journeys.
