Eric Stanley Hooper, a lifelong resident of Clinton, South Carolina, passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 62. His family shared that he received his call to join the Lord in his room, described as a house prepared by Jesus, the great carpenter.
Born on August 31, 1962, in Pickens, South Carolina, Hooper was the son of the late Wayne Hooper and Margaret Brittle. He will be remembered not just for his work as the shredder person at the Whitten Center in Clinton but also for his love of life. Eric found joy in simple pleasures, such as playing with spinning tops, receiving arm and back rubs, and reading issues of Southern Living magazines.
He is survived by five siblings: JoAnn Steinseifer (married to David), Kenneth Hooper (married to Gina), Brian Hooper, Sonja Green (married to Katrina), and Tara Johnson (married to Micah). In addition, Eric leaves behind nine nieces and nephews: Candace, Christine, Stanley, Nicholas, Amanda, Ariana, Derek, Chase, and Job, as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family expressed deep gratitude to the staff of Unit 108 and the administration of Whitten Center, particularly thanking Eli, Stephanie, and Christy for their care and support.
A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park, located at 2410 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens, SC 29671. Before the service, friends and family can gather at Dillard Funeral Home’s Garden Room from 12:00 to 12:45 PM. Honorary pallbearers will include Eric’s roommates from Unit 108 at the Whitten Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to be made in Eric’s honor to the Whitten Center, located at 28373 Hwy 76 East, Clinton, SC 29325. Condolences can be shared through the Dillard Funeral Home website.
