This prestigious honor not only highlights Morgan’s dedication and hard work but also paves the way for her future career in education.

A Journey of Preparation

As a senior at Clinton High School, Morgan has successfully navigated through the demanding Teacher Cadet coursework and practical experiences known as practicums. These preparations have equipped her with the necessary skills and insights to excel on the Teacher Education pathway. With her head held high and determination in her heart, Morgan is ready to step into a new phase of her academic journey as she heads to Newberry College this coming fall.

What Lies Ahead for Morgan?

Once at Newberry College, Morgan will be immersed in a wealth of opportunities designed to enhance her teaching skills and professional development. With exciting projects and partnerships planned with local schools and communities, she will not only grow as an aspiring educator but also become a vital part of the educational landscape in South Carolina. The program aims to instill strong leadership qualities while nurturing passionate educators ready to make an impact.

All About the South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program

The South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program, which has been in existence since 1999, is dedicated to attracting talented high school seniors into the teaching profession. Operated by the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA), this program awards fellowships to up to 200 seniors each year. To qualify, aspiring fellows like Morgan demonstrate high academic performance, a history of community service, and an unwavering commitment to teaching in the state of South Carolina.

The Selection Process

Becoming a Teaching Fellow is no walk in the park. Qualified applicants must complete a rigorous selection process, which includes an online application alongside a presentation and interview before a panel of experienced educators. Those who are successful in this endeavor earn up to $24,000 in scholarships over four years, with a maximum of $6,000 per year. In return, each fellow is committed to teaching in South Carolina for one year for every year they receive support from the fellowship.

Clinton High School’s Growing Legacy

It’s worth noting that Clinton High School is not only celebrating Morgan’s achievement. The school’s Dark Horse Fellows recently received an impressive $55,000 grant from the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Pilot Program, a significant boost to its educational initiatives and goals. With the expectation of further support over the next three years, the total funding could reach a remarkable total of $200,000.

Additionally, two remarkable students, Jazlyn Orona and Brianna Jackson, were recognized for their ambitions to enter the teaching profession. Each received a $40,000 Student Loan Forgiveness scholarship, reflecting their commitment to giving back to the local school system. Out of 32 students participating in the school’s teaching program, jazlyn and brianna were proud applicants for this promising scholarship.
