Celebrating Local Talent: Clinton High School’s William Reid Shines as Athlete of the Week
Clinton, SC – The excitement is in the air as we celebrate our local high school athletes, and this week’s spotlight is shining brightly on William Reid, a senior cross country runner from Clinton High School. William has just been named the GoLaurens.com Athlete of the Week, an honor presented by Self Regional Healthcare in partnership with the Lakelands Region YMCA-Laurens and the Clinton YMCA.
Outstanding Athletic Performance
In an impressive display of grit and determination, Reid finished 5th overall out of a formidable 619 runners at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg last weekend. His finishing time of 16:19 not only secured him a place among the top competitors but also marked a personal best, smashing his previous record of 16:29. That’s a significant achievement for any athlete, and it paints a promising picture for what’s to come!
Community and Team Spirit
“CHS Cross Country is so excited about this week’s athlete of the week, William Reid,” shared Lee Atkinson, the cross country coach at Clinton High School. “William is an outstanding student athlete. His work ethic, focus, and determination have enabled him to be the incredible runner that he is. We are so proud of how he leads with humility along with his fellow senior teammates.”
Not only is Reid thriving in competitions, but he’s also making a significant impact on his team. Atkinson emphasized that Reid’s belief in his potential inspires everyone around him. “He believes that he can get faster… so do we,” the coach said with optimism. It’s clear that Reid is more than just a talented runner; he embodies the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie that benefits the entire cross country program.
The Voting Process
The process for selecting the Athlete of the Week is engaging for the community. Voting opened on Sunday night at 9 PM and closed at 11:59 PM on Tuesday night, allowing fans to support their favorite athlete by casting a ballot once daily. This week, the candidates included other notable athletes: Cody Patterson from Laurens District High School and Javen Cook from Clinton High School. However, it was Reid’s impressive performance that earned him the top spot this time around.
Continuing the Tradition
The GoLaurens.com Athlete of the Week is part of a wonderful initiative that will run for a total of 32 weeks throughout the 2024-2025 school year. Athletes from Clinton High School, Laurens Academy, Laurens District High School, and Thornwell Charter School are eligible, making this a fantastic opportunity for local high school athletes to gain recognition for their hard work and achievements.
As we wrap up our spotlight on William Reid, we can’t help but feel proud of the talent that this community nurtures. Whether it’s running, teamwork, or school spirit, Clinton High School continues to produce remarkable individuals who not only excel in their sport but also make a difference in the lives of those around them. Congratulations to William Reid for being this week’s athlete to watch—we can’t wait to see what heights you’ll reach in the season ahead!
