Westminster, Maryland – The local high school sports scene is buzzing as teams dive into the 2024 season with strong performances and exciting games. South Carroll volleyball is off to a fantastic start under new head coach Kristine Keck, boasting an impressive 3-0 record. The Cavaliers made a powerful statement by defeating Westminster in their conference opener on September 12, winning in straight sets. They followed this by overcoming the Manchester Valley team, which many had considered a frontrunner, with another three-set victory.
Meanwhile, the Century girls cross country team recently showcased their talent at the Bull Run Invitational, where they took home the team title for small schools. This was led by Taylor Colson, who won the individual race, clocking in at 20 minutes and 23.6 seconds, outpacing last year’s state champion.
In boys soccer, the South Carroll Cavaliers have had a blistering start as well, winning their first five matches, scoring a remarkable 19 goals while only conceding one. Their defense has not allowed a goal in their last four games.
The Liberty boys soccer team is also worth noting, as Lucas Britos has been on fire with five goals and four assists in just four games, leading the county with 14 points. On the gridiron, Chase Miller helped the Lions secure their first football victory, throwing for 220 yards and three touchdowns in a nail-biting 31-26 win.
In field hockey, Caelin Lopes has continued her strong play as a defensive leader for South Carroll, marking her 100th career save in their recent match.
As the season progresses, highlights are pouring in across all sports with standout players making their mark. With games heating up, it’s clear that this year’s high school sports teams are ready to compete at an exciting level.
