Arlington High Schools Prepare for a Relaxed Week of Sports

Thanksgiving Sports Wrap-Up for Arlington High Schools

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, Arlington high schools are gearing down for a much less busy week in sports. The transition from fall to winter sports season means fewer events, but there’s still some exciting action to look forward to, particularly on the football field.

The highlight of the week will be Washington-Liberty Generals taking on Langley in a big postseason region semifinal football game. This matchup is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and promises to be a thrilling contest as teams battle for a place in the next round of the playoffs.

While football steals the spotlight, there are also a variety of preseason scrimmages scheduled in wrestling and basketball. On Saturday, several teams will test their skills:

  • Wakefield will compete in a girls wrestling scrimmage at West Springfield starting at 9 a.m.
  • Washington-Liberty will face Lewis in another wrestling scrimmage at noon.
  • Yorktown will go head-to-head with Justice for a wrestling scrimmage starting at 9 a.m..

For swimming and diving fans, don’t miss the Bishop O’Connell versus Good Counsel matchup at the St. James, scheduled for noon.

The boys and girls basketball scrimmages will also add excitement to the weekend. Notable games include:

  • West Springfield at Washington-Liberty for boys basketball at 7 p.m..
  • Hayfield at Yorktown for boys basketball at 7 p.m..
  • St. Andrew’s visiting Bishop O’Connell for girls basketball at 7:30 p.m..

Additionally, the girls ice hockey match features Bishop O’Connell against St. John’s at MedStar Capitals Iceplex at 3:30 p.m..

As a reminder, there will be no high school sports events from Wednesday, November 27, through Friday, November 29, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Stay tuned as Arlington high schools continue to gear up for a thrilling winter sports season!
