Arlington High Schools Gear Up for Postseason Action

This week in Arlington, the local high school sports scene is a bit quieter as teams prepare for the postseason. Several games are lined up on Friday night, November 15, featuring three Arlington football teams as they battle for playoff glory.

The spotlight will be on the football field with Yorktown taking on Washington-Liberty at 7 p.m., while Bishop O’Connell faces St. Mary’s Ryken at the same time. Both games are part of the excitement as playoff hopes are high.

In another crucial matchup, the Yorktown girls field hockey team will be playing in the semifinals of the Class 6 state championship at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, kicking off at 5 p.m. Their performance could lead them closer to a state title.

Ice hockey also continues this week, with Yorktown squaring off against Loudoun Valley at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex at 8 p.m. Not to be outdone, Washington-Liberty plays against Forest Park at the Prince William Ice Center starting at 9:10 p.m.

Meanwhile, cross country runners will be hitting the course for the Class 6 state meets at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, with the girls running at 10:30 a.m. and the boys following at 11:15 a.m., promising intense competition.

As winter sports draw near, multiple basketball and wrestling scrimmages are scheduled, allowing teams to prepare for the upcoming season. Highlights include scrimmages for both boys and girls basketball teams from Washington-Liberty, Yorktown, and Wakefield.

This week promises an exciting mix of postseason action and team preparation, showcasing the hard work and dedication of Arlington’s student-athletes.
