High School Sports Highlights: Kimberly Clinches FVA Title
Kimberly – The Kimberly Papermakers secured a crucial win over their rivals, clinching a share of the Fox Valley Association title. With their latest victory, they improved their record to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play, tying with Kaukauna and Neenah for the top spot in the FVA standings.
In a nail-biting game, Kimberly managed to hold on to a narrow lead of 10-3 late in the fourth quarter. Just as the clock ticked down, Appleton North scored a touchdown when Charlie Olson connected with Grant Hardy for a 47-yard pass in the final minute. However, North’s attempt to convert for two points fell short, securing Kimberly’s victory.
Marcus Doucette, who has been sidelined with a broken collarbone for much of the season, made a strong return, finishing with 91 yards on 15 carries and scoring an 8-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
In other action, Freedom triumphed over Luxemburg-Casco with a solid performance from Drew Kortz, who racked up nearly 400 yards of offense. He completed 19 of 26 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 70 yards and another touchdown.
The run game was highlighted by contributions from players like Quinn Brennenstuhl and Parker Jochimsen, who had receiving yards of 100 and 88 respectively.
Winneconne also made headlines by claiming the outright Bay Conference championship, with Brody Schaffer scoring four touchdowns to lead his team to victory. Winneconne now boasts an impressive record of 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference, while Seymour falls to 7-2 overall.
This week’s sports events have certainly been exciting for local high school teams as they move closer to playoff action.
