High School Fall Sports Kick Off in Vermont
This week marked the start of the 2024 Vermont high school fall sports season, with numerous games taking place across the region. Teams from various schools competed in soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running.
Field Hockey Results
The field hockey action included Montpelier defeating Missisquoi 3-1, with Regan Walke scoring two goals for Montpelier. In another matchup, Milton earned a solid 2-0 victory against Lyndon, with standout performances from Saj Sanders and Olivia Hayden. For St. Johnsbury, it was a successful match as they shut out North Country 2-0, where both goals were scored from penalty corners.

The soccer field was just as exciting. Essex dominated Burlington with a 5-2 score. Grace Symula led the charge for Essex with three goals, while Burlington saw strong efforts from Sidney Burdick and Ella Knudsen. In a tougher battle, Colchester narrowly beat Mount Mansfield 2-1 in double overtime, thanks to Ava Moore’s dramatic game-winner.
Volleyball Standouts
In volleyball, Essex showcased their skills against Rice with a decisive 3-0 win. Tess Adams was a key player, contributing several kills and digs. Champlain Valley also excelled, defeating BFA-St. Albans in three straight sets.
