Laurens Square Comes Alive with Fashion, Music, and History

Laurens, South Carolina – This weekend, Laurens Square is buzzing with activity as it plays host to an array of events kicking off with the ‘Finally Friday!’ series by Main Street Laurens. The series includes a Parisian fashion show, live Country and Western music, and an exhibition of historic quilts.

Fashion in Laurens Square

At six o’clock this Friday, the square comes alive presenting a unique Parisian fashion show which brings together the city’s favourite merchants to showcase their threads and accessories. Models strut down the makeshift ramps donned in opulent clothing and accessories from businesses like Sarabeth Jordan Boutique and Thomason Jewelers.

It’s not only the clothes that are making a statement; trendy hairstyles showcased by local salons like The Vault and Salon on Main complete the perfect look for each model.

Country and Western Tunes to Follow

After the fashion exhibition, Exit 83, a band native to Spartanburg, takes over Pedestrian Plaza for a night filled with enchanting Country and Western tunes. Local crowds and visitors can sway to the music and enjoy the summer evening.

Honouring History with Quilts

On Saturday morning, history aficionados can visit the Laurens County Museum to admire the Historic Quilt Exhibit. The exhibit showcases quilts crafted as far back as 170 years ago, transported through time from different corners of Laurens County.

One of the masterpieces exhibited is a quilt on loan from the South Carolina State Museum, crafted painstakingly by Andrew Johnson, a tailor whose journey from Laurens led him to become the 17th President of the United States.

The historic quilt exhibition will be open to visitors throughout the summer. Enthusiasts can visit the museum between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday. The exhibit, which is completely free for the public, will also have a quilt raffle and additional workshops which will be running from June 22 through Aug 31.

These events organised by Main Street Laurens mark the start of a memorable weekend in Laurens Square, putting the city’s fashion, music, and history on display for the locals and tourists to enjoy.
