News Summary
Three lottery players in North Carolina have each won $100,000 after matching winning numbers in a recent Powerball drawing. The jackpot had soared to $1.8 billion and was ultimately claimed in Missouri and Texas. In addition to these winners, over 200 players in the state also secured smaller prizes. The Powerball jackpot now resets to $20 million for the next drawing, enticing more participants to try their luck.
Charlotte, North Carolina – Three lottery players in North Carolina participated in Saturday night’s Powerball drawing and are now $100,000 richer after successfully matching the winning numbers. The recent drawing’s jackpot had escalated to an impressive $1.8 billion, ultimately claimed by two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas. This jackpot marks the second-largest in U.S. lottery history, falling short only to the record-setting $2.04 billion Powerball winnings in 2022.
The winning numbers from the drawing included 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the red Powerball number 17. In North Carolina, four players matched four white-ball numbers along with the red Powerball, earning each of them $100,000 thanks to the active 2x “Power Play” option available. Without the Power Play, matching four white-ball numbers and the Powerball would typically have led to a prize of $50,000, highlighting the significant impact of this multiplier.
In addition to the three winners sharing the $100,000 prize, over 200 other players across North Carolina secured winnings of $200 by either matching four of the white-ball numbers or three white-ball numbers along with the Powerball. Many of these players bolstered their prizes through the Power Play option, illustrating the winning potential available to participants in the Powerball lottery.
As a result of the drawing, the Powerball jackpot has now reset to a base amount of $20 million for the upcoming Monday night drawing. For those interested in taking part, the next drawing features a substantial jackpot of $1.4 billion, which is estimated to provide a cash option of approximately $634.3 million.
Earlier this month, a group of co-workers, nicknamed “The Money Team,” also celebrated a $100,000 win after purchasing a winning ticket at a Walmart in Charlotte on August 23. This group matched the same winning numbers and initially believed their ticket only netted them a modest $500. However, much to their surprise, they discovered during a group call that their winnings were significantly greater, totaling $100,000. After deductions for state and federal taxes, the payout for The Money Team was reduced to approximately $71,751.
The excitement surrounding the Powerball lottery continues to draw participants, with large jackpots attracting attention. The current sizeable jackpot creates an enticing opportunity for future players, as many look to try their luck in the hopes of joining the ranks of the recent winners.
The Powerball lottery program, which began in 1992, has consistently provided players with life-changing payouts and has grown in popularity across the United States. The jackpots, often reaching into the billions, reflect not only on the game’s appeal but also on the millions of hopeful participants who buy tickets each week awaiting their chance at a life-altering prize. With these significant winnings and the anticipation of upcoming drawings, the enthusiasm for Powerball remains strong.
