Clinton Community Grapples With Recent Arrests and Tragic Disappearance
In the small town of Clinton, residents are reeling from a series of alarming events that have sparked concern and sadness throughout the community.
Loaded Gun Found at Clinton High School
This week, the Clinton Police Department made an unsettling discovery at Clinton High School. An 18-year-old student named Jalen Shands was arrested after a loaded gun was found in his car during a routine screening of vehicles in the student parking lot. Interestingly, no firearms were located at Clinton Middle School, easing fears for parents and students at that institution.
Along with the firearm, officers also discovered marijuana inside Shands’ vehicle, further complicating the situation. According to reports, the gun was confirmed to be stolen from North Carolina, raising serious questions about how it ended up in a high school parking lot.
In response to the incident, school officials, local police, and the school resource officer acted swiftly to ensure that all students remained safe. Fortunately, it was established that the weapon was never brought inside the school premises, so there was no direct threat to the students or faculty.
Shands was escorted out of his class and taken into custody, facing several charges including simple possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm on school property, and possession of a stolen firearm. He is currently held at the Johnson Detention Center, with a total bond set at $6,615 after a hearing at the Laurens County magistrate’s office. This incident has left many in the community shaken, as parents worry about the safety of their children in schools.
