Montpelier Launches Thrilling High School Winter Sports Season with Impressive Basketball and Hockey Performances

In Burlington, the 2024-2025 Vermont high school winter season has kicked off with an exciting array of scores and highlights from basketball, hockey, gymnastics, wrestling, and skiing.

On the basketball court, Mount Mansfield defeated Colchester with a score of 58-40. Maysa Long led the charge for Mount Mansfield with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while Dakota Karpinski was the star for Colchester, scoring 20 points, including four 3-pointers in the first half. Notably, Mount Mansfield outscored Colchester 16-4 in the third quarter to secure their lead.

In another close game, Blue Mountain edged out Sharon, finishing 34-32. Meanwhile, St. Johnsbury started strong, jumping to a 59-40 win against Colchester. Michael Rodriguez Guerrero was key for St. Johnsbury, netting 19 points.

Hazen also saw an impressive performance as they overcame Peoples, winning 69-49. Brendan Moodie was exceptional, scoring 42 points and sinking 7 three-pointers.

Over on the ice, Rice had a standout moment with a 7-1 victory against Colchester. Vincent Lanzetta secured a remarkable hat trick, scoring three goals in a single game, marking a memorable high school debut for him.

In girls hockey, Essex dominated with a strong 6-0 win against Kingdom Blades, led by Abigail Desilets and Taylor Senecal, who each scored twice.
