LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. — Republican Rick Shealy has picked up endorsements from Sheriff Don Reynolds of Laurens County, Sen. Danny Verdin and 8th Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo in the race for South Carolina House District 14, which goes to voters in Tuesday’s general election.

Reynolds, who has been sheriff since 2017, said Shealy has built his campaign around backing law enforcement and would be a strong voice for public safety at the State House.

Stumbo, whose judicial circuit takes in Laurens County and who is the Republican candidate for state attorney general, called Shealy a man of integrity. He tied public safety to strong families and the rule of law.

Verdin, a Laurens Republican who has held the Senate District 9 seat since 2001, cited Shealy’s experience building both a business and a farm. Verdin’s district covers parts of Greenville, Laurens and Union counties.

Shealy is also on the 2026 general election slate of Vote Pro-Life South Carolina. The Greenville group released its list of more than 50 candidates statewide on Oct. 5. Candidates it endorsed signed a pledge to back policies that protect life from conception and that support families and elderly and medically vulnerable residents.

Three candidates are on the House 14 ballot, and none is an incumbent: Shealy, Democrat Michanna Tate and Henry Jones of the United Citizens Party. Tate moved on to the general election without a primary after the Democratic contest was canceled.

Shealy won the Republican nomination on June 9, defeating Rep. Luke Rankin with 60.1% of the vote, 3,090 to 2,055, according to certified results. Shealy, whose family has been in South Carolina for eight generations, runs a farm in Cross Hill and has called the county home for over 15 years.
