LAURENS, S.C. — Downtown Eats & Sweets, the scratch-cooking cafe and bakery on the public square in Laurens, Clinton’s fellow Laurens County city, will shut its doors for good by the evening of Friday, Oct. 30, little more than six months after it opened.

The restaurant announced the closing Wednesday on its Facebook page, pointing to slow business through a hard season and to difficulties tied to its location. It also closed early that day to begin winding down.

The owners hope someone else will keep the space running. In a second post, the business put its operation up for sale as a ready-to-run restaurant and bakery for $25,000. The price covers the kitchen equipment along with the tables and chairs, and a buyer would have to take over the current lease to stay in the building.

The cafe at 128 S. Public Square was a family venture, opened by a pair of sisters-in-law, one of whom had earlier owned another Laurens business. It held a soft opening March 20 before its official opening April 3, 2026.

In its early weeks, the cafe served breakfast dishes such as biscuits and gravy alongside sandwiches, salads and a Meat & 3 plate, with desserts that included cakes, cookies and brownies. One of the owners said in March that the opening crowds had been strong and that some days the kitchen sold out.
