CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College women’s soccer closed its home schedule with a 4-0 loss to High Point on Wednesday night at Martin Stadium in Clinton, a result that also ends any chance of a Big South tournament berth for the Blue Hose this fall.

The defending Big South tournament champions needed only three minutes to go ahead. Sophie Redner scored the first goal of her college career for the Panthers, and that 1-0 margin held until halftime.

High Point pulled away after the break. The Panthers made it 2-0 at the 55:29 mark, and Presbyterian was reduced to 10 players when it was shown a red card at 59:44. Kari Powell added her first goal of the season in the 85th minute off a Taylor Howarth assist, and Gianna Rizzo, set up by Chloe Edwards, scored her first college goal three minutes later.

Four different Panthers scored, and 10 of them took at least one shot. High Point outshot Presbyterian 23-7, put 12 attempts on goal and earned seven corner kicks in the second half alone. Blue Hose freshman goalkeeper Alexa Garcia made four saves, while High Point keeper Nylah Mirshafiei went the full 90 minutes and finished with three stops.

The win was the fourth in a row for High Point in the series and moved the Panthers to 4-8-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play. Presbyterian dropped to 4-9-1 overall and 1-6 in the Big South.

The night doubled as the last home match for four Presbyterian seniors, Emilia Lieber, Lucy Cartin, Emma Brown and Lyla Chadd. Chadd has appeared in all 64 matches of her four-year career and has played the full 90 minutes in 56 of them.

The seniors will play their final college match on Oct. 31, when Presbyterian closes the regular season at Radford.
