## Irmo Celebrates 51st Okra Strut

The 51st annual Okra Strut was held last weekend in Irmo. The event took place from 6-11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Friday’s festivities began at 6 p.m. with an opening ceremony at the Prisma Health Amphitheater inside Moore Park. Musical performances included The Big Time Band, who played until 9 p.m., followed by Monsters of Yacht, performing until 11 p.m.

Saturday morning commenced with the Irmo Okra Strut 5K race, which started at 7:30 a.m. at Irmo Village Shopping Center. Following the race, the traditional Okra Strut Parade proceeded along St. Andrews Road, beginning at 9 a.m.

After the parade, community festivities continued at Moore Park. Attendees enjoyed various food and beverage vendors, including fresh-cooked okra prepared by the Lake Murray Women’s Club of Irmo. Children had access to amusement park rides such as a Ferris wheel, swings, a bounce house, and children’s golf. Additional artists performing at the amphitheater included the country-western band Dixiana and Elizabeth as Taylor.
