A new fitness group, the Foxtrot Company Ruck Club, recently launched in Laurens County, offering Clinton residents and others an opportunity to engage in rucking, a fitness method involving walking or running with a weighted vest or backpack. The club aims to foster community through outdoor activity, personal growth, and service.

Clinton resident Ty Grogan founded the club after discovering rucking and the GORUCK community himself. Grogan observed a lack of similar groups in Laurens County and sought to create a local option for individuals interested in improving their fitness and connecting with others. He emphasizes that participation is open to anyone who can walk, regardless of their current fitness level or military background.

Rucking, a practice with roots in military training, has gained significant popularity as a mainstream fitness trend. Data from Ruck Authority indicates a more than 50% increase in weighted vest sales between 2024 and 2025. The GORUCK community also reported a 40% rise in sales and now organizes over 1,000 rucking events annually.

The Foxtrot Company Ruck Club is currently offering regular activities, with plans to expand as membership grows. The group has utilized local spaces such as the Presbyterian College track and the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and is actively seeking additional locations for future sessions. Activities are scheduled at various times, from morning to evening, to accommodate diverse schedules.

Through its affiliation with the larger GORUCK organization, the Foxtrot Company Ruck Club can access a wide array of opportunities, including large-scale events, scavenger hunts, holiday-themed activities, and exclusive merchandise. Participants can also earn physical and virtual badges for their achievements.

The club’s name, Foxtrot Company, draws inspiration from General Francis Marion, the South Carolina Revolutionary War hero known as the Swamp Fox. General Marion’s legacy of resilience and adaptability resonates with the core principles of rucking, which encourages participants to push their limits and discover their capabilities by carrying weight and maintaining forward momentum.

For those interested in joining or learning more, information is available through the club’s social media presence or by contacting Ty Grogan directly.
