The Laurens County Republican Party is scheduled to host its Summer BBQ and stump meeting on Thursday, September 10, at 6 p.m. The event, titled Stumping for Victory: Road to November, will take place at the American Legion Post 25 facility, located at 19 Choctaw St. in Laurens.

This gathering is designed as a traditional stump meeting, offering Republican nominees an opportunity to address the public before the November general election. Attendees can expect dinner, music, various speakers, and raffles with prizes.

Valerie Jones, Chair of the Laurens County Republican Party, stated that stump meetings are a Southern tradition, providing a direct interaction between candidates and the people they aim to serve. Jones encouraged families to attend, emphasizing the goal for attendees to leave with a clear understanding of the candidates on the November ballot.

Confirmed speakers for the event include Senator Danny Verdin; Rick Shealy, the Republican nominee for S.C. House District 14; Laurens County Councilmen Justin Lane and Matthew Brownlee; Councilwoman-elect Nancy Garrison; and school board candidate Nick Babb.

Attorney General Alan Wilson, the Republican nominee for governor, and Solicitor David Stumbo, the Republican nominee for attorney general, will not be able to attend in person due to prior campaign commitments. Organizers are hoping to arrange for both to address the group via video.

Tickets for adults are $18 per plate, while children aged 10 and younger can attend for $12. The organizers are promoting the event as a family-friendly occasion and encourage parents to bring their children.

Lee Brothers will cater the event, offering a menu that includes barbecue pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, green beans, pickles, coleslaw, rolls, tea, banana pudding, and cookies.

Members of the Laurens County Republican Party who purchased a $20 membership card at the most recent convention will receive one free raffle ticket with the purchase of a plate. Additional tickets for the party’s Red Hot Republican Raffle will be sold during the evening, with the drawing taking place at the event. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
